You are planning and excited about getting down on your knee and you are coming to our Holy City of Charleston, SC for your proposal at The Dewberry Charleston perfect experience and location to have this momentous occasion. This luxury elegant hotel offers a variety of options, including the Walled Garden, which boasts live oaks, historic brick walls adorned with English Ivy, a bluestone walkway, and a raised garden. The hotel’s entrance and unique architecture are perfect for creating the perfect proposal images with a touch of the Dewberry charm.
With the help of the concierge team, Griffin was able to surprise Juliet in the private walled garden at sunset. As she turned the corner, there was a bed of red rose petals, lanterns, and candles. He walked Juliet and guided her back to the roses to propose. A few tears, big smiles, and an engagement ring sealed their status from dating to engaged. The duo shared some celebratory hugs. We then proceeded to capture more unique proposal images around the Dewberry Hotel with a few sidewalk portraits beside the hotel including a mini Charleston theme proposal setting into the Holy City.
After our session, we proceeded to the Rivers room and terrace on the 8th floor, overlooking the magnificent setting of this Holy City. As the sun sets, this quote perfectly captures the moment: “Life does not come with instructions on how to live, but it does come with trees, sunsets, smiles, and laughter, so enjoy your day.” – Debbie Shapiro. I had set up my lighting, knowing that I would capture a few more proposal photos on the rooftop while we still had golden hour light.
Planning a proposal requires a lot of effort. Being from out of town, Griffin had to rely on his trusted proposal vendors. We provided a team effort to make this proposal unforgettable. I always recommend finding local vendors who have helped plan or photograph proposals. Always consider variables you may not know about (because you likely haven’t done this before and won’t ever again!).
To make your proposal seamless and the perfect experience, I recommend planning the proposal 1 to 1.5 hours before sunset, depending on where you’re proposing in Charleston. That means when the sun is at the horizon line. This means very little natural light is left for the day.
This is where hiring a professional matters. They will know the best proposal spots to capture the best photos. The only time I’ll concede good light spots is if the proposal location in mind has sentimental value to the couple. If that’s the case, then the proposal will happen in that spot, and then we can capture more at other suggested locations.
Remember not to overthink it too much. Don’t stress over every little detail. I understand that it’s natural to do so, but try to keep in mind that you have found the person with whom you want to spend the rest of your life. And while you may be excited and anxious about proposing, imagine how they are feeling waiting for the question. A proposal and acceptance of marriage means that you both choose each other and will continue to do so every day. That is a beautiful thing, no matter what other details may be involved in the proposal.
Best wishes to Juliet and Griffin! It was an honor to document this special moment in your relationship, and thank you for choosing us to be a part of it!
