This wedding season started really well for me, thanks to my fantastic clients. Here is a perfect example of why I am blessed to have them. My story starts on a Sunday on April 13th, 2014 after capturing another wedding the day before. On this day, I arrived in downtown Charleston, on King Street, at a very quaint upper condo. Both the bride and groom and bridal party were getting ready there. We then left for the ceremony & reception that was being held at Magnolia Plantation and Gardens, what a perfect day and evening.
Here from the bride is how this day became:
We met in June 2012 at a concert at Wolftrap in Virginia. While all Jared really remembers about Whitney is the Off Mosquito repellent fan on her dress, and the gummy bears, it was the start of something. We went to our friends July 4th party about a month later and hung out all day. Watermelons filled with mojito slushies and beer pong was just the beginning. Another month later we went to Rehobeth Beach with Kristin and Frank Wade (who introduced us!) and we’ve been inseparable ever since. Jared proposed on June 22, 2013.
First, let me start by saying I was 110% surprised! Looking back, there were many signs. At the hotel in Indy, Jared insisted on leaving the TV on while we went to the rehearsal dinner. Little did I know the ring was left in the hotel. Sign 1. We drove to Nashville, freshened up and headed out on the town for a drink around 5 pm. Jared said he had a surprise and we’d have a limo for the night. Normally this would be a sign to someone, but we’ve just started using Uber (the fancy taxi service!) and I didn’t think anything of a black SUV picking us up. It was an Escalade, Sign 2. Our driver, Morey, took us to the Patterson House where we waited to get our
drinks. They were fabulous, but Jared was drinking them much more quickly than he normally does. Sign 3. We left the Patterson House and Morey picked us up. Morey shut my door and he and Jared stopped at the back of the car to speak for about 20 seconds, what sign am I on, oh yes, Sign 4. Cue the monsoon… yes, we had to pull over it was raining so hard. Turns out this was ok since Jared was waiting for Sunset for his proposal. We drove around and finally came to this bridge Jared had been talking about for a few days. The Shelby Street Pedestrian Bridge. He said let’s go check it out – with an umbrella. Now why I thought it was ok to walk up a
bridge, in heels, in the rain with an umbrella is beyond me, but I’m glad we did. We overlooked the city and were just chatting – all of a sudden Jared says, “I have to tie my shoe” (Sign 5, he was wearing cowboy boots).I turned around and there he was on one knee, with a beautiful ring. Clearly, the first words out of your mouth should be “Oh my god” (twice) and should always include a step (or two) backward, some tears and hands on my face but after composing myself I finally said Yes! I sure am glad I didn’t have to propose to me, that would have scared me. The rest is
history, we spent the rest of the evening smiling ear to ear, having dinner, calling friends and family (none of which mine knew of Jared’s scheme) and just enjoying Nashville. Needless to say, it was a fantastic trip, and yes, Morey the driver was in on the scheme. Should I have seen this coming you think?
Wedding Vendors:
Our Photographer was Michel Berda of King Street Photo Weddings. Michel was fantastic and captured all the parts of our day that were most important to us King Street Photo Weddings, Charleston SC. We’re pretty sure we kept him on our toes with some pretty funny members of the wedding party(Meredith and Mark we’re talking to you)Our wedding was held at Magnolia Plantation at the Long White Bridge and Veranda House. We couldn’t have asked for better weather considering it monsoon only a week before!
Our Band was Josh Hilley and the Str8 Shot and Chuck DiZ performed on the violin for the ceremony. They were absolutely fantastic – and even got Whitney’s parents (who don’t dance) to get up and boogie.
Our flowers were from Costco, and the Bride and her friends arranged all the flowers.
